SCOPE OF WORK: Incumbent will operate pick-ups and light equipment such as tractors with attached mowers in various aspects of road maintenance in coordination communication and cooperation with schools, communities, Indian Health Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, county and state.
These potions will be under the direct supervision of the Roads Maintenance Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operation of pick-up trucks and light equipment on highways and gravel road maintenance operations.
Flag motorist to warn them of obstacles or repair work ahead.
Set out signs and cones around work areas to divert traffic.
Dump, spread and tamp asphalt using pneumatic tampers to repair joints and patch broken pavement.
Drive trucks to transport crews and equipment to work sites.
Inspect, clean and repair drainage systems, bridges and other structures.
Haul and spread sand, gravel and clay to fill washout and repair road shoulders.
Remove litter and debris from roadways.
Clean and clear debris from culverts, catch basins, ditches and other drain structures.
General labor duties including shoveling, prepare culvert beds, signing, cleaning bridge decks, guard rails, crack sealing and etc.
Mowing road slopes and ditches with tractors mounted with or towing rotary type movers.
Must keep a day log of work location, time, equipment used, fuel used, which will be submitted on a weekly basis.
Perform preventative maintenance and upkeep of shop and equipment.
Observe established safety practices and procedures when working with equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Must have knowledge of materials, methods and techniques used in maintenance activities.
Experience in the operation of a variety of highway maintenance equipment and general labor skills.
Must be able to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
Must be able to use power tools and hand tools in a safe manner.
Must have a valid class D Drivers License.
Applicant must have a High School Diploma or GED certificate.
Applicant must be familiar with Standing Rock Road System.
Applicant must be able to read service manuals and interpret the proper procedure in maintenance and repair of equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy physical effort is required by the operator in constantly reaching, bending, turning and moving hands, arms and feet to operate and maintain the equipment and attachments Must pass a Tribal Background check.
Position will be subject to all Tribal regulations including random drug and alcohol testing.
Must pass a Tribal/State motor vehicle records background check.
Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
Operators must be able to lift in excess of 50 pounds of weight at all times.
WORKING CONDITIONS: The operators will work both indoors and outdoors.
The operators will be subject to extreme temperatures.
The operators will be exposed to grease, oils, fuel, dirt, solvents and the danger of shock, cuts, bruises and vehicle equipment accidents.
