Job purpose The Asphalt Screed Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the screed used to pave asphalt surfaces in the construction of highways and streets.
Travel required 25% - 100% depending on the crew.
Job posting for the 2024 construction season with anticipated season start in April 2024.
Duties and responsibilities Operate construction equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations Check all fluid levels daily and perform daily walk-around inspection, to include greasing as necessary, when operating equipment Place asphalt at the correct grade and slope Operate the equipment in the right direction and angles to prevent accidents and damage of property Understand material thickness and type of material being laid Maintain effective communication with the paver operator Operate equipment in various situations, maintaining proper awareness of one’s surroundings Report need for large repairs to appropriate parties All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations Qualifications Minimum one year of asphalt screed operating experience Experience on multiple pieces of construction equipment is preferred Possess a valid driver’s license Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment Working conditions Outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises.
May be required to work 50+ hours, 6 days a week.
Physical requirements Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner.
Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments.
Standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching.
