Job purpose
The Assistant Shop Superintendent should be a dependable, dedicated, and motivated individual with great leadership skills who is seeking a job with diverse work from day to day.
They are responsible for assisting the shop superintendent with managing the shop as well as performing mechanic duties.
Duties and responsibilities
Leadership of shop personnel
Assisting the Shop Superintendent with daily duties
Basic electrical and hydraulic knowledge
Analyzing and diagnosing (troubleshooting) equipment malfunctions or failures
Complete preventative maintenance and repairs on all company construction equipment and vehicles
Use diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices to determine required repairs
Effectively read and understand equipment schematics
Order necessary parts to repair the equipment
Using hoists and hand tools and will examine parts for damage or excessive wear
Assist in maintaining company property
All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations
Qualifications
Minimum two years of heavy-duty or truck mechanic experience
Minimum of five years of general mechanic experience
Possess a valid driver s license (Class A or B CDL Preferred)
Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment
Working conditions
Indoor/outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
Exposures to fumes, dust, odors, chemicals, fuels, oils, heights, and loud noises
Work an average of 60 hours per week during the construction season
Work an average of 45 hours per week during the winter
Physical requirements
Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments
Standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds
This is a full-time, year-round, hourly position.
