Primary Purpose: Smooths and finishes surfaces of poured concrete floors, walls, sidewalks, or curbs to specified textures, using hand tools or power tools including floats, trowels, and screeds.
Typical Duties: Spreads concrete to a specified depth and workable consistency, using float to bring water to the surface and produce a soft topping.
Levels, smooths, and shapes surfaces of freshly poured concrete, using straightedge and float or power screed.
Finishes concrete surfaces, using a power trowel, or wets and rubs concrete with abrasive stone to impart finish.
Removes rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces, using a power grinder or chisel and hammer, and patches holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
Molds expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge.
May sprinkle colored stone chips, powered steel, or coloring powder on concrete to produce the prescribed finish.
May produce rough concrete surface, using a broom.
May mix concrete, using a hoe or concrete-mixing machine.
May direct subgrade work, mixing of concrete, and setting forms.
May specialize in finishing steps and stairways.
Also, performs all duties as General Laborer, Skilled Laborer, and Carpenter.

Requirements: Workers should be able to: Work rapidly and accurately with hands; follow set procedures and standards; compare and see differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects; picture objects from drawings or diagrams, rate information using standards that can be measured or checked; calculate amounts of concrete required for each job and work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
Physically, workers must be able to: climb and maintain body balance; use hands and arms fully; stand, kneel, bend, crawl, or crouch for long periods; and see well (either naturally or with corrections).
