The Value Stream Manager is responsible for leading plant performance improvement through Lean production system design, effective problem solving techniques, the design and management of performance improvement initiatives, and the training and coaching of plant team members to accomplish the same in coordination with the plant leadership team.
In order to achieve this, the incumbent will effectively communicate with plant management, the corporate Continuous Improvement group and coach frontline employees, supervisors and value stream operating managers in how to better incorporate performance improvement activities into their daily job performance through a philosophy and commitment to continuous improvement.
This position reports to the Plant Manager and VP of Operations and has direct responsibility for Operations Foreman that are assigned to their value streams and the off-shift assigned to ensure production of quality products in an environment conducive to food safety requirements for the start-to-finish value stream cycle.
In addition, the Value Stream Manager is responsible for positively impacting employee relations by exemplifying and maintaining consistent, fair and inclusive employment practices, legal and corporate compliance and behaviors reflective of the company’s leadership profile.
· Bachelor’s degree desired, preferably in business or a manufacturing related field.
Proven leadership, persuasive, initiative, analytical, and communication skills are necessary for success in this position.
· Broad manufacturing experience including 5 years’ experience in management roles.
· Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
· Must have experience in leading lean and continuous improvement activities.
· Independent judgment with analytical skills in formulating decisions concerning different problems with similar solutions.
· Ability to be resourceful, demonstrate business acumen, creative thinking skills and be able to act as a decision maker.
· Excellent leadership qualities.
· Demonstrates results orientation.
· Strong problem solving, lean thinking and statistical process control skills.
· Demonstrated multi-tasking and project management skills.
· Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills.
· Knowledge of food manufacturing is preferred.
1.
Monitors plant metrics identifies root cause for less than desirable results and demonstrates the skills and focus needed for continuous improvement.

Leads team members by managing and executing plant processes.
3.
Manages team members in attaining production and quality goals.
4.
Ensures appropriate resources (including materials, equipment, and staffing needs) are available to maintain production schedules.
5.
Supports continuous improvement processes to ensure that goals in safety, quality, cost, and customer service are met.
6.
Creates and maintains an engaged and team-oriented work force to improve business results.
7.
The position is very hands-on - supervisors are usually in the production area “on-their-feet” about 80% of the shift.
8.
Diagnose and evaluate off-shift performance (safety, cost, quality, delivery) challenges stemming from plant demand management and forecasting, inventory management, capacity and production planning and production process design and execution.
9.
Develop and implement plant solutions based on Lean Production system design, tools, techniques.
10.
Lead and coach others on root cause problem solving activities.
11.
Participate in the design of work standards, quality control charts and systems in addition to other elements of superior manufacturing practice to aid plant improvement.
12.
Train and coach plant personnel in Continuous Improvement and its Lean methodology.
13.
Assist the Plant leadership team in assessing the progress of Lean Manufacturing initiatives and programs underway at the plant.
14.
Coach front-line supervisors to manage their time, activity, and behavior to drive planned and scheduled opportunity generation and capture vs.
reactive problem solving.
15.
Assist Supervisors in resolving production and employee related concerns.
16.
Ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations ensuring the maintenance of a safe and sanitary plant in accordance with all state and federal and company regulations.
17.
Make recommendations, develop new manufacturing plans and implement to achieve improved efficiency and effectiveness.
18.
Develop and maintain solid performance management and performance team concepts/practices to fulfill the organizations participative management philosophy assuring that the appropriate formal management programs are instituted and followed through the entire operation.
19.
Take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the SQF system.
20.
Enforces daily commitment to performance boards and statistical process control.
21.
Attends weekly Leadership meetings and communicates information to supervisors.
22.
Supports and sets expectations that standardized work will be utilized and kept current while seeking opportunities to ensure it is part of our culture.
23.
Coordinate shift's activities by providing production details, staffing issues and lean initiative updates.
24.
Performs special projects as assigned.

The majority of the time is spent in an office setting outside of the production plant.
The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.

Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
3.
Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
4.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
