SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) will be responsible to provide the highest quality pre-hospital care and assist in the transport of individuals who require emergency care.
SUPERVISION: The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) will work under the supervision of the Standing Rock Ambulance Program shift supervisor and director, who will provide guidance, direction and conduct performance evaluations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Respond to the emergency needs of sick and injured; provide the necessary treatment of patient in a rapid, professional manner, while advising patient/family of the treatment plan.
Maintain direct communication with the Medical Director for the Standing Rock Ambulance Program to ensure a high standard of care.
Administer basic drug distribution and assist in operating equipment used for the critical care.
Complete appropriate (patient reports, ambulance check list, drug check list) reports.
Ensure contact is maintained with mobile and stationary units in the emergency services network to coordinate activities or personnel; request services of other protective agencies, provide guidance and direction for on-scene emergency personnel when planned procedures are not feasible.
Review and monitor daily inventory list of medications and update listing of all emergency equipment including all program vehicles, rescue trucks, etc.
Issue notification of deficiencies in supplies, equipment, needed documents, and ambulance maintenance.
Provide safe operation of emergency vehicles in all weather related situations.
Conduct restocking ambulances, equipment and supplies.
Sanitize inside and outside of the ambulances and the ambulance base.
Perform Ambulance program related duties as required and delegated; Complete tasks and assignments pertaining to EMS services for the Standing Rock Nation.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School/GED with current National Registry Certification, License and certification ND State Board of Medical Examiners or SD Department of Public Safety Emergency Medical Services and SD Board of Medical & Osteopathic Examiners, and CPR with two (2) years of documented experience in Emergency Management Services.
Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Excel and database services for reporting.
Proficient in carrying out general office functions with efficient operation of (copy, scanner, fax, printers, and telephone) standard office equipment.
Solid verbal and written communication skills; understand and carry out both verbal and written instructions and request clarification when needed.
Excellent customer service skills and demonstrate professionalism; maintain tact, courtesy, composure and flexibility when dealing with demanding circumstances, situations and personalities.
Valid driver’s license and meet insurability requirements.
Must pass a Minimum Background Investigation and suitability requirements.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrate effective knowledge of protocols and standing orders of the Standing Rock Ambulance Service; strictly adhere to physician orders according to the Medical Director.
Ability to obtain and maintain current HEP-B vaccination.
Ability to maintaining both National Registry and state certifications including the continual education and refresher requirements.
Sign a confidentiality statement and understand the penalties for any violations.
Ability to obtain HIPAA training and maintain updated training as required.
Demonstrate to effective knowledge of all ALS and BLS equipment, diesel trucks, various radio equipment, cell phones, codes/procedures and orientate of service area.
Knowledge of the traffic ordinance and laws concerning emergency vehicles; visual accuracy as needed for patient care and assessment as needed for operating ambulance.
Ability to effectively communicating patient information to receiving medical staff in speech and written documentation.
Ability to maintain a positive work environment, able to communicate and promote professional and compassionate rapport with the public, patients, co-workers and personnel involved in the health care field.
Demonstrate active participation of Ambulance staff in community health related activities to share new and current information within the Standing Rock communities.
Ability to learn and operate new software applications; ADP timesheets systems, data collection and reporting instruments.
Ability to display evidence of good health and maintain a neat and professional appearance and arrive for scheduled shifts on time.
Demonstrate safety while exposed to various weather elements and noise, cleaners, biohazards, HazMat products at emergency scenes.
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, reach overhead, climb, squat, bend, kneel, sit, stand, walk and move patient and cot in safe manner to patient, self and crew.
Demonstrate emotional stability, psychological adaptability to dealing with various types of emergency situations.
Ability to work beyond shift schedule.
