Position Description & Details: The Carrington Research Extension Center (CREC) is seeking a research specialist to become a member of a dynamic team of scientists and support staff researching the diversity of factors impacting dryland and irrigated agriculture across the region.
This position has dual responsibilities of providing both leadership and support for the research program.
The selected candidate will provide leadership towards research logistics and assist the Research Agronomist in maintaining the agronomy program at CREC.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities include field trial establishment and maintenance, field equipment operation, pesticide applications, data collection and analysis, and coordination of field activities within a team.
This position will require working outdoors in varying conditions and may require occasional heavy lifting.
Duties will require travel to off-station research locations.
A qualified candidate must be able to carry out these duties with minimal guidance, once trained.
Advertised Salary: Commensurate with experience Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in agronomy or closely related field.
Familiarity with northern plains crops and crop production techniques.
Demonstrated ability to operate agricultural field and research equipment such as tractors or harvesters.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and evidence of positive producer interaction.
Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work within a team.
General knowledge of computers and capabilities to utilize software for word processing, data management, data analysis, as well as ability to learn field equipment software such as on a harvester or planter.
Valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications: Master of Science degree in an agricultural field related to crops or soil.
Commercial Pesticide Applicator certificate.
Experience in field plot research design, field trial establishment, data analysis and interpretation Experience with field crop input applications.

About Us: The Carrington Research Extension Center (CREC) is one of seven NDSU Research Extension Centers and is located approximately 140 miles from the North Dakota State University campus at Fargo.
The CREC has four research scientists and four extension specialist positions in the areas of agronomy, livestock environmental management and animal science.
Professional and technical staff supports the CREC and NDSU based programs.
The general responsibilities of the CREC include research and extension projects that address dryland and irrigated crop production, plant pathology, the soil resource, cropping/tillage systems, crop pest management, beef nutrition and beef production systems, crop and livestock integration, and foundation seedstocks production.
The CREC is located in the drift prairie region of North Dakota and conducts research and educational programs for a significant part of North Dakota.
This position is located at the Carrington Research Extension Center near Carrington, North Dakota.
Carrington is a thriving rural community of approximately 2,500 people in a widely diversified agricultural production region of east central North Dakota.
