Summary of Position: This position performs animal control, parking enforcement, and other community service functions.
MAJOR DUTIES: Maintains and operates the animal impound facility; feeds and waters shelter animals; cleans and disinfects kennels; maintains shelter grounds and outdoor runs; participates in snow removal operations; cares for animals housed in shelter; feeds and water animals; provides basic medical care; arrange for transport to veterinarian as needed; contacts owners of impounded animals; processes and coordinates adoptions; makes arrangements to place animals with rescue groups.
Investigates reports of animal bites, animal cruelty, and animals as public nuisances; interviews involved parties; collects evidence and writes reports; submit cases and presents evidence in court; issues verbal and written warnings and citations; captures and removes stray, uncontrolled, abused, or neglected animals using net, net gun, leases, and catchpoles; removes capture animals from traps and places in impound cages; responds to wildlife calls within the city limits.
Maintains files related to the impounding and disposition of animals, the licensing of animals, etc.
; prepares a variety of regular and special reports, including budget reports; develops recommendations for new or updated animal control ordinances; maintains the Animal Control website and social media accounts; provides opportunities for public education related to animal care, animal control ordinances, and animal safety; collects donations of food and other items and maintains related records.
Manages the city bow hunting program; enforces rules and monitors activities; investigates complaints related to hunters.
Enforces parking ordinance in downtown areas and issues tickets for violations; patrols schools, shopping centers, and residential areas to enforce parking ordinance and issues tickets for violations; chalks and tags vehicles to give notice to vehicle owners; tickets and tows trailers and boats in violation or related ordinance.
Assists in the removal of vehicles in violation of ordinances, including those parked on parade routes and streets marked for special events; provides escorts for oversized vehicles; directs traffic at accident, fire, and other incident scenes.
Releases vehicles form impound lot upon payment of fees; releases personal property to owners of vehicles that have been towed or involved in accidents.
Delivers internal mail to various city locations.
Transports found property for storage.
Performs related duties.
Community Service Officer Full Job Description Required Documents to Attach: Cover letter Resume Minimum Qualifications: Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
