Sakakawea Medical Center is looking for a medical technologist or medical lab technician to join our team.
As a lab tech at Sakakawea Medical Center, you will complete a wide range of testing for inpatients, outpatients, and emergency room visits.
Working in a rural, critical-access hospital setting requires our lab techs to have positive face-to-face interactions with our patients, as well as complete quality reporting on a wide range of laboratory testing.

Lab techs are responsible for performing specialized and routine tests on patient samples to aid in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease processes.
Requires the use of judgment, interpretation, and evaluation to make decisions and assure accurate results.
Must have good communication skills and possess the ability to work in an independent manner with limited supervision.
Ability to work under pressure in a medical situation by reporting out quality results in a timely fashion.
Previous experience is preferred.
*Essential Functions, Roles, and Responsibilities*
* Phlebotomy - Obtains proper specimens for analysis from patients, with minimal trauma.
* Specimen Handling and Processing - Prepares specimens accurately according to established procedures for in-house and referral lab testing.
* Testing - Performs all procedures accurately and in a timely manner.
Investigates abnormal results by repeating results or checking previous results.
Uses problem solving skills and works with nursing staff and physicians to confirm abnormals.
* Quality Control - Follows quality control protocols, documenting all results.
Investigates shifts and trends.
* Preventive Maintenance - Performs required maintenance and notes any corrective action taken.
* Proficiency Testing - Documents receipt of proficiency testing samples, follows directions and analyzes samples accordingly.
Documents results.
*Other Duties*
* Quality Assurance - Participates in and develops studies to monitor pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic processes.
* Special duties as assigned could include:
* Ordering supplies;
* Scheduling;
* Performing and overseeing the urine drug screen/Breathe Alcohol testing programs;
* Assuming duties when the manager is not present;
* Overseeing the quality control program;
* Overseeing the preventive maintenance program;
* Responsible for preparing daily charges to ensure accurate billing.
