Primary Job Function:
The Unit Clerk assists with administrative, clerical tasks, and customer relations on the nursing units.
Qualifications:
High school graduate or GED.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Previous experience or training in healthcare or a related field.
Knowledge of electronic health record, medical terminology, medications, basic lab tests, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, & Microsoft Outlook.
Prepare information using proficient keyboarding/ typing skills and spelling accuracy.
Must be able to read, write and speak the English language to effectively communicate with health professionals, co-workers and complete accurate assessments, and record-keeping processes in person and on the phone.
Must have hearing acuity to receive detailed information through oral communication in person and by phone.
Complete job tasks neatly and accurately, writing legibly, paying attention to detail.
Essential Job Functions
Operate and maintain a scanner, copier, fax machine & printer.
Complete admission, discharge, death, hospital transfer, hospital return and room transfer procedures.
Monitor & coordinate lab work in unit’s lab calendar and Microsoft Excel.
Proficient with comprehension and data entry of orders and tasks into electronic health record, i.
e.
PointClickCare.
Complete duties listed on Unit Clerk checklist.
Follow Unit Clerk policies and procedures.
Print order summaries for provider visits.
Upon admission completes the Immunization Procedure
Meet established time deadlines for daily, weekly and end of month duties.
File and retrieve medical records charts from the chart racks.
File medical record reports in the medical record charts.
Proficient with printing, Word documents, labels, PointClickCare records and reports, and other print jobs.
Send a group voicemail message regarding resident status changes.
Fill in on additional units when other Unit Clerks are out.
Trains new unit clerk hires.
Communicates with other healthcare facilities, including clinics, as needed.
Answer phone and route calls as indicated.
Greet residents, families, and visitors.
Fax, scan, copy, stock unit with office supplies, and other basic office tasks.
Assist Charge Nurses and Unit Director with transportation set up, referral paperwork, requested provider dictations and reports, consult paperwork and preparation, and other tasks as assigned.
Completes performance improvement projects as needed or assigned.
Proficient with operating Microsoft Word, Excel, & clinical software such as PointClickCare.
Coordinate break times with Unit Charge nurse.
Other Job Functions
Perform other specific duties as assigned.

Maintain good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with all persons.
Attend required meetings.
Complete the required HealthStreams educational sessions and attend all staff mandatory in-services.
Be responsible to be aware of the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) AND Risk Management/Safety Program and adhere to the established policies and procedures facility wide with regards to job performance and safe operating procedures.
Respect and uphold resident rights in all regards including confidentiality of resident’s personal, financial and health information.
Physical Demands
Must be able to do sedentary work over 75% of an eight hour shift, working at a computer and desk workstation.
Must have the visual acuity to review, prepare and analyze close paper work including medical records, (i.
e.
accuracy of Physician’s Orders Sheet), and to view a computer terminal.
Must be able to bend at waist and knees, grasp and reach for objects and records.
Must be able to complete written documentation manually and on the computer frequently throughout the shift.
Responsible to go to the Front Office to retrieve office supplies and medical record forms, and push up to a 40 lb cart, if needed, on a weekly basis.
Must be able to carry up to 10 lbs.
Work Conditions:
Two separate large, facilities with 5 nursing units that are well-lighted and well-ventilated with carpeted or vinyl floors.
