Knife River Corporation has an exciting opportunity for a Legal Analyst to join our team in Bismarck, ND.
The Legal Analyst is responsible for providing and performing a variety of legal services exercising a high degree of skill, discretion, and independent judgment in performing tasks under the general supervision of an attorney.
Minimum Qualifications:
1.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience; and
2.
Three (3) years advanced knowledge and expertise in a specialized area or areas of the law obtained through formal education, specialty certification, training, or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
1.
Experience in areas related to the Company’s business operations.

Must take all measures necessary to protect networks, devices, programs, and data from cyber-attack, damage, or unauthorized access.

May be required to maintain a valid driver’s license.
Duties & Responsibilities
1.
Reviews/proofreads, analyzes, and drafts correspondence and legal documents with respect to Knife River Corporation and its subsidiaries.
2.
Supports the general administrative needs of the Legal and Risk Management Department and other internal departments.
3.
Performs research including the use of internet services and documentary research.
4.
Assists with the corporate compliance program and management of Company policies and procedures as necessary.
5.
Assists attorneys with corporate secretary work and creation of reports and presentations to the Knife River Board of Directors.
6.
Assists in providing services and reports in areas such as corporate structure, corporate governance, contracts, and real estate.
7.
Interacts directly with outside counsel, adjusters, registered agents, brokerage firms, the Knife River leadership/management team, and corporate Board of Directors.
8.
Take action authorized during attorney’s absence and use initiative and judgment to see that matters requiring attention are referred to delegated authority or handled in a manner so as to minimize effect of attorney’s absence.
9.
Leads the maintenance and updating of legal databases and files to manage corporate and subsidiary information.
10.
Prepare invoices for necessary approval and processing and maintain current summary of outside attorney costs and fees.
11.
Maintain paper and electronic filing systems, assuring compliance with retention schedules.
12.
Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1.
Strong analytical skills, advanced level of organizational skills, and be capable of working on matters of a complex nature, preferably with minimal supervision, and exercise discretion and independent judgment.
2.
Ability to communicate effectively by providing and obtaining detailed information while exercising tact and diplomacy in written and oral contacts with associates, other departments and company subsidiaries, outside counsel, governmental agencies, registered agents, brokerage firms and other companies in the industry.
3.
Proficient in use of various software programs including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and Outlook.
4.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently to accomplish assigned tasks and must have ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
5.
Ability to manage workload so that priority is given each day to the most essential work.
6.
Ability to recognize and appreciate the confidential nature of work done in the Legal Department; keep all work and information confidential.
7.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain confidentiality.
