Click for Total Rewards Calculator *Closing Date: * January 26, 2024 *Status:* Full-Time with State Benefit Package *Recruitment: * Internal/External *Location:* Bismarck, ND *Selecting Supervisor:* Parrell Grossman, Director, Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division *Summary of Work* The Paralegal's primary purpose is to provide support to attorneys representing state agencies and employees, thereby improving the quality and efficiency of the legal services provided by the Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division of the Office of Attorney General in the following ways: 1.
Analyze cases and agency issues, research relevant laws, regulations, and judicial decisions to assist in analyzing and evaluating cases/issues for general counsel purposes 2.
Case preparation and management, including document management involving document storage, requests, and production 3.
Conduct investigations, interview witnesses, prepare for trials, hearings, and depositions; manage legal file 4.
Develop and prepare legal documents and correspondence 5.
Communicate with attorneys, clients, witnesses or public and will assist with consumer inquiries, complaints, mediation, and resolutions.
6.
Assist with consumer inquiries, complaints, mediation, investigations, and other resolutions 7.
Other duties as assigned.
In addition to the monthly salary, this position includes fully paid health insurance for employee and family, the option to participate in employee-paid dental and vision for employee and family, participation in the state NDPERS defined contribution retirement plan as well as the option to participate in the 457 deferred compensation plan, the option to contribute to a medical spending account, as well as paid annual leave and sick leave.
Employees in this position are eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.
*Minimum Qualifications* Bachelor’s degree with a major in paralegal, legal assistant studies, or pre-law, and two years of paralegal or legal assistant experience that included application of research and analysis to draft pleadings, discovery documents, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
Work experience as a Certified Legal Assistant may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preference will be given to applicants who have a bachelor’s degree in paralegal and experience in consumer protection or related fields Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage detailed information efficiently and accurately.
