SCOPE OF POSITION:
Early Head Start Teacher is responsible for providing appropriate learning activities for the different age groups for the infants and toddlers in our center based program according to lesson plans provided by the curriculum to ensure goals and objectives are achieved.
In addition will be required to keep daily reports, sanitize assigned room on a daily basis and providing care such as; feeding, diapering, nurturing (holding, soothing when upset).
SUPERVISION: The Early Head Start Teacher will work under the supervision of the Early Head Start Center Supervisor/Lead Teacher who will provide guidance, direction and conduct required performance evaluations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure safe environment to prevent and reduce injuries both indoors and outside.
Maintain healthy environment to prevent illness by practicing proper hygiene when handling infants and sanitize all toys and equipment on a daily/hourly basis.
Deliver positive nutrition feedings; by feeding on a child’s schedule (formulas and baby food).
Coordinate activities that utilize the classroom space to allow the infants and toddlers to explore and learn through physical development.
Develop and implement weekly lesson plan for the class with proper individualization too provide documentation of each child’s development.
Conduct a variety activities that stimulate the child’s curiosity through questioning and problem solving.
Implement activity that stimulate the child’s interests to explore and express their creative abilities.
Promote positive interaction of the children to encourage feelings of empathy and mutual respect among children and adults (model the proper behavior for problem solving).
Maintain positive and informative relationship with the families by encouraging participation in the program curriculum and activities.
Support interaction of the children on the floor and at eye level.
Prepare and submit monthly reports as required.
Participate in monthly parent and program meetings as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates of Science in Early Childhood Education or Child Development Associate (CDA) certification with two (2) years’ experience in a child development or child care related field.
In lieu of education requirement will consider: High School Diploma/GED with one (1) year experience in a child development or child care related field.
Must demonstrate the ability to complete infant/toddler lesson plans that incorporate the goals and objectives of the curriculum.
Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to understand and carry out both verbal and written instructions and request clarification when needed
Effective computer skills and knowledge of general office equipment.
Excellent organizational skills and solid attention to detail
Effective interpersonal skills and professionalism; maintain tact, courtesy, composure and flexibility in a sensitive and demanding environment.
Pass a background check (regulations require no child abuse, neglect or any serious violent crimes or charges), three (3) references the provide information of character, emotional stability and competency.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to maintain or achieve any level of education (Early Childhood Degree or Child Development Associate Certification) that is required by the Head Start Act within two (2) years of employment.
Ability to complete CPR & First Aid Training within ninety (90) days of employment.
Ability to obtain a physical and TB skin test prior to offer of employment.
Ability to sign, understand and adhere to Head Start confidentiality agreement and Head Start standards of conduct.
Ability to participate in the professional career development program and sign agreements as required.
Demonstrate a desire to work with infants and toddlers.
Demonstrate compliance to policies on Hours of work (time and attendance).
Demonstrate organization, planning and documentation skills.
Demonstrate initiative to seek opportunities to improve competencies professionally for the benefit of the program.
